Cardioversion

Cardioversion is a medical procedure used to restore a normal heart rhythm in patients with abnormal heartbeats, such as atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter. It can be done either with electrical shocks (electrical cardioversion) or with medications (pharmacological cardioversion).
