Cardioversion

Cardioversion

Cardioversion is a medical procedure used to restore a normal heart rhythm in patients with abnormal heartbeats, such as atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter. It can be done either with electrical shocks (electrical cardioversion) or with medications (pharmacological cardioversion). Electrical cardioversion involves delivering controlled electric shocks to the heart through electrodes placed on the chest, while the patient is sedated. This procedure is typically used when medications alone cannot correct the irregular rhythm. It is generally safe and effective in restoring a normal heart rhythm.
